SRS2026: The 2026 SRS Annual Meeting

SRS2026 was held on the 8th and 9th January 2026, at the Royal College of Surgeons of England

The meeting had RCS CPD approval. From over 700 submissions, 325 research presentations were made. These can be reviewed here and will be published in the BJS.

Michael Nicholson

Professor James Shapiro delivered the Farndon Lecture. Dr Shapiro  is internationally renowned for developing the Edmonton Protocol, a groundbreaking procedure for treating type 1 diabetes through islet cell transplantation. He is the recipient of the 2025 BJS Award.

Professor Michael Nicholson (past SRS President) delivered his Hunterian Lecture at the meeting.

Professor Dion Morton (past SRS President)  gave the BJS lecture

 

The meeting dinner was a Black Tie event held in the College Library

 

Prize Winners

The Patey Prize was won by Thomas Hampton for his presentation  “A randomised prospective placebo-controlled cross-over study of the acceptability and efficacy of bone conduction assistive technology for school-age children with hearing impairment in Blantyre Malawi”

The Williams Prize Was won by Ella Hobbs for her presentation “Oxygenated hypothermic machine perfusion of older kidneys donated after circulatory death reduces cardiolipin release in perfusate and impacts certain clinical outcomes”

The Burnand Prize was  Pamela Calle-Mendoza for her presentation “JMJD2A epigenetically regulates hepatocellular carcinoma metabolism”

The BJS Prize was won by Zan Florjanic Baronik for his presentation as the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) Prize Winner: “Axonal Injury is a Targetable Driver of Glioblastoma Progression”

The Gibson Prize was won by Daniel Eaton for his presentation “Improved Outcomes in the Management of High-Risk Incisional Hernias Utilising Biological Mesh and Soft-Tissue Reconstruction: A Ten-Year Follow-up”

The ASIT Prize was won by Lachlan Dick for her presentation “Identifying novel indicators of non-technical skills derived from operative video annotation”

The Bradley Prize was won by Aryan Sharma for their presentation ” Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment of Smooth Muscle fibres in the Common Bile Duct”

The Marx Prize was won by Katherine Poon for her presentation ” Reconstruction versus Below-Knee Amputation for Complex Foot Trauma: A Retrospective Cohort Study”
